And so it was my 1st-ever marathon run on 5th Dec 2010
Something which I set out to do at the start of this year
Something which I'm proud of now
Thinking back
At least I can tell myself
"Hey, I've freaking ran a marathon in this decade
And I done something challenging in my life
At the prime age of 21 too!"
I know so many other dudes and babes have done this
And a lot of them before the age of 21
But hey, we're in the same league now!
;)
Anyways this year marathon was an eye-opener
42.195km!!!
No freaking joke!
Longest I ever ran in my life till date
Recorded 21km as the longest run till this SCMS
Did my preparation
But was still under prepared
But oh well, at least I have set my mind on something that
was gonna be freaking physically and mentally tough
Didnt eat enough
1-foot long Subway sandwich wasnt filling enough
Should have eaten some pasta or rice
Or next time, 2-foot Subway
That will ensure I wont feel hungry 1/4 into the race next time
:)
Holding onto 6.5min slightly under 7min per km
Was very comfortable timing till 21km
When I was at the 13km mark at the start of East Coast Park
I already saw the first 3 runners at the opposite side
Hitting the 28km mark
That was crazy shit!
=/
Yup, hit the 21km mark and there wasnt any water point
21km was 2h36min
Worse than my AHM
But since it was 42km, I guess it was very good constant pace
Then at the 23km mark the cramps came
And that was like the "Armageddon" for me
Saw plenty of gian-peng Sporean snatching fuel gels
10 pax of fuel gels equal to $40 bucks
Already profit more than early-bird registration
LOL!
Damn gian-peng
Taking 10 pax
Storing inside belt or holding onto them with both hands full
The sight was just disgusting
What was more disgusting
Ppl peeing in the public
LOL!
Epic crazy stuff!!!
The whole race after the 20+km mark was very disappointing
Couldnt run constantly for more than 6 minutes
Limped and ran and jogged and walked
Was like delaying Xu Le who was pacing along
Oh well, told him to go ahead after we finally got out of ECP
It was a killer stretch which never seems to end
And they threw us into the "Marina Barren Land"
No shelter no water point
A lot of ppl complaining
Little ppl running
And from then on
My only motivation was overtaking these 3 NUS girls
They were walking and I was half-limping half-running
Still couldnt overtake and leave them behind
Keep seeing them even though they were walking
Quite disheartening
Knowing that you are like trying your best
Then others walking still same pace as you?
Felt like walking and giving up altogether
Then saw some old uncles doing half-limping half-running
And did the same thing as them
Finally overtook the 3 girls at the 35++km mark
Satisfaction seriously
If not it was a morale-killer
=.=
I think I was trapped in the same spectrum of timing
with a certain number of ppl
If not I kept seeing them
Thought my mind was playing tricks on me
The Sheares bridge was another killer
Couldnt run up 2 steps without feeling the cramps
But hell, after that was the finishing once the F1 pit came into sight
Felt great to run through and finish
Not with the best of poses for the camera though
Hahahaha!
Here's the pictures of my race

LOL!
Oh well
"Picture-of-the-race" next!

YEAH!
One for the fans!
(there's a ninja-warrior behind me)
:)
Summary of this race
6h15mins
Very bad timing
Bad logistics from the management
But couldnt complain much
Did my part in the running only
Loved the fact that a ton of friends were running in the race
And plenty of cute sporty girls too
Bonus all-round
LOL!
Now's the time to rest and start training again in January
