364 days to ORD
Seeing the seniors ORD today
Makes you feel like.....just changing to the civilian clothes
And then walking out of the gate together with them
Hand in hand
Pink IC pasted on the forehead
Waving to every single dude who is a NSF
Then once stepping out of the gate.....
Throw my bags down
Hands raised
Shout to every single motherfucker that "I ORD LO!"
(outside my camp is like 5km from civilization though)
So many things to do on the outside
Feels like I'm growing so old already
Then you start receiving more and more 21st bday invites lately
And how each one is getting more extravagant
There's one at Shangri-La Hotel for God's sake
How am I supposed to attend it?
I honestly feel paiseh just hearing this kinda of invites
Furthermore asking me to attend
Haiz.....同人不同命
Suddenly turned to reading Straits Time everyday
(of cuz after killing off The New Paper first)
Never liked Straits Time
Probably never will
But I chanced upon this article on "Living the Singapore Dream"
Something along the line lah
This article talked about Singaporeans wanting to live the dream
You know like they talked about America, USA
being the "Land of Dreams" or something like that
Whereby it means you can go USA to live your dreams of becoming a singer, set up a business, get rich (or die trying) as USA is like the destined place for opportunities
Well, the article also says Singaporeans all have a dream in mind
That is to get the 5Cs
Car, Condominium, Credit Card, Country Club Membership, Cash
So Singaporeans all work hard towards this dream
Whereby they slog hard at work, and work hard as a family man/woman at home
Raised kid, send them to school, pray they will turn into genius
(if not send them to countless tuition, so-call enrichment in pingpong/tennis or what shit and whatever piano/violin/dance/ballad in hopes that they will turn into the next Jay Chou, Vanessa Mae, Wonder Girls, Thomas Edison, Issac Newton and whoever)
Oh well...how about that for reality
Geez!
So ya, the article then mentioned this
Why is everyone following this 5Cs dream?
Is this even a dream?
Cuz every single motherfucker (this is becoming my next favourite online word) is still thinking that they have a dream
That is to have the 5Cs, then live in their condo, and get richer and richer
And then finally passed away in peace
Which comes to the writer saying this
Have anyone, who along the way of trying to chase this 5Cs dream, even thought about what they had really dreamt of when they were young?
When you were young
Did the teachers in school ever asked you what you wanted to be?
Hands up if you wrote policeman, teacher, doctor, lawyer etc
Go shoot yourself if you write engineer, accountant, HR manager etc
(stop lying and go face the wall to repent please)
How many of us end up studying something we didnt like?
How many of us are deviating from the dream job you wanted?
How many of us are not doing something we like?
How many of us suddenly think of being an accountant, a banker, a Tai-Tai, a broker, a model or what just becuz the money's good?
And how many of us are already 20+ years old still not living the dream we used to have?
Izzit becuz of the big $$ issue?
Well hands up again (I admit myself)
Once when I was young, I wanted to be a policeman
I joined NPCC (congrats to myself!)
I continued as a Cadet Inspector (2nd pat on my shoulders!)
Then I got into Army and wore green (oh oh! GG-fied!)
Nowadays, I still think if I had cross over to Home Team as an Officer....
I might have signed on already
Oh well, it just says maybe I have to get my degree first
Then go sign on as an Inspector or something with the Police Force (so I'm still on track with relations to my dream job)
Anyways besides myself
I see this situation set in stone
Everywhere its the same
We are gunning for more cash
So that we can retire in peace and harmoney
Tour the world and such
OH YEAH!
You gonna tour the world when you retired hur?
When you are rich and famous and have kids hur?
When osteoporosis sets in, bones crack, illness comes in etc
Then you gonna do sky diving, mountain climbing, culture exchange wor?
Where did the youth go?
How did you spend those days then?
When you were healthy and strong and fit
And supposed to have fun and go see the world and not be a 井底之蛙
Take photographs, be daring, ask for a pretty stranger's couple shot
Do stunts, fool around, drink beer, eat foreign delights
Drive around countryside, wind surf, mountain climbing etc
Experience life and whatnot
YES I DAMN HELL AGREE
WE HAVE TO EARN A BLOODY LIVING
So thats why we chased this 5C dream
So that ultimately we can provide ourselves with food on the table
Enough to eat, enough to wear, enough to sleep
And once again, enough to retire and enjoy life
When once upon a time, $1,000,000 was enough to retire
Now maybe $10,000,000 is just nice (just nice only)
Just think about this
(I was thinking about it before I took my Class 2 on Tuesday)
When I was young
I wanted a Digimon gadget for $10 bucks
Back then I thought it was expensive
(of cuz hell sure I wanted it right?)
Then suddenly you turn primary school and I wanted a game boy
(ok $100+ bucks was serious shit)
And then you go secondary school and on weekends you go shopping (and oh well a pair of Levi's cost $99 for the low-end ones....HELL YEAH!)
And poly came
(a laptop cost $2k and inflation became a norm already)
And suddenly I thought about what I was gonna do after I get my Class 2
Buy a Class 2 bike for $10+ k?
And then I rmb my frens who got a car for your 21st
(you sure are damn hell one lucky boy and girl!)
Why had self-rewards turn to this?
Are we becoming donkeys?
In which we need to see the carrot in front, before we can move forward?
(stupid waiter job scarred me for life! BITCH! I HATE YOU!)
And is this what we wanted
Being materialistic and stuff
Congrats to another report that says Singaporeans are becoming more materialistic
Especially the females
And the Army dudes who read the articles went AWWWW~~~!
*slaps their foreheads and go into emo-nemo state*
So ya back to the 5Cs dream
The write claim it has become "The Singapore Plan" instead of "The Singaprore Dream"
Indeed, how true it was
Lastly, the author end off in subtle tones
Somehow prompting readers to chase their own dreams
Especially making full use of their youth to do it
If you want to be a photographer
Go all out and be a good and professional one
If you wanna tour the world
Bring souvenirs to remind yourself where you had been
If you wanna be a musician, be it pianist/singer/violinist
Go learn and practice and practice and practice
All in all
Just be the best in what you want to be
Or at least try
At least you know you had tried
Correct?
Once I was upset when I got lousy grades
Then my Dad said something like just give your best and no regrets
Till this date, I hold this dearly
Giving my best (if I want to please! mostly for studies)
While my Mom places great and utmost numero uno emphasis on results
Sometimes it is very hard to please your parents and be a filial son at the same time
=/
Oh well
Thats beside the point
And yes I wanna say
I do have a dream
And you wanna know whats my dream?
Come ask me and I will tell you more
:)
But know it
I started working since the age of 14
And I felt this gave me an advantage over others
Of knowing the value of money
And the ultimate statement of " 钱是难赚的! "
(maybe you can go and sell trees, or diamonds and be a CLASS above others)
(Join the RSAF and maybe you can be ABOVE ALL)
In how I shall be able to realise my dream next time
I stopped taking money from my parents already
(besides the OGK helmet and my current watch,
both gifts from my Dad)
And I have been teaching tuition since 17
(plus working during the holidays)
Without charging over-the-top rate unlike ppl of my age or what
With definite lesser qualifications
(I DARE YOU take out academic qualifications
if you wanna rebuke)
So as to earn my keep and self-sustain
Anyways I'm not saying other ppl teach tuition is wrong
Or I hao-lianing that I very good at self-sustaining myself
But .... sometimes I wonder why they can charge $50 per hr
Then I ask what they do
And they can say they print exam papers and let the kids do
What have the world come to?
Is doing RGS, RI, Hai Sing or what top school papers gonna do
a N'level or what level kid good?
Are they gonna learn all these stuff in their job next time?
Poly route shows you otherwise
Dont believe, go out and work next time
Who use what General Formula of Algebra X for bankers and whatnot?
So ya, for the end of the story
Go live your dream
Or start thinking about your dream
And work towards fulfilling it
Instead of just thinking how to get rich (and really die trying)
Your life should be purposeful
Becuz.... " the purpose in life is to lead a life full of purpose "
(quote from Ms Ng's favourite 大眼妹! =D )
